National Presence-The Young Democrats of America
The Young Democrats of America (YDA) is the largest youth-led, partisan political organization in the nation. The Young Democrats of America mobilizes young people under the age of 36 to participate in the electoral process to elect Democrats, influence the ideals of the Democratic Party, advocate for progressive issues, and train the next generation of progressive leaders.
The Young Democrats of America has over 150,000 members nation-wide in chapters in 48 states and U.S. territories – including high-school and college students, young workers, young professionals, and young families – Our membership reflects the broad diversity of our nation and the Democratic Party. Our programs engage Young Democrats through their local county, college, or high-school chapters, through state and regional programing, and nationally through events like our quarterly national meetings, national convention, issue advocacy, and academies.
The Young Democrats of America has been the official youth arm of the Democratic Party since its founding in 1932. Since 2002, the Young Democrats of America has operated independently of the Democratic National Committee (DNC) as a nonfederal 527 political organization, while maintaining 3 positions on the DNC.
State-based and local organizing are the cornerstones of our efforts and the Young Democrats of America remains committed to supporting our state and local chapters with the tools they need to succeed and grow.
Statewide Presence-Young Democrats of New Mexico
The purpose of the organization is to empower young New Mexicans and develop an active interest in governmental affairs. We provide opportunities for our members to acquire practical public policy experience in the operation of the Democratic Party and New Mexico government. We represent young people in councils and committees of our party as well as the national organization of the YDA. We recruit new members and provide a ready means of entry into the party for all young people, with our ultimate goal being a climate protective of equity and minority rights.
We currently have 19 county chapters throughout the state of New Mexico. These chapters are spread throughout the state and consist of numbers ranging from 3 to 50 active members depending on the location. To find a chapter near you please contact us so we can connect you to an active group!
